How to Play Backseat Rally
The main menu has six entries: PLAY, SHOP, MY GARAGE, CONTRACTS, STAGES, and SETTINGS. PLAY splits into DRIVE, CO-DRIVE, and FREE ROAM.
Your first start begins with a clean stop in the start box on Pine Forest, not a car purchase. Follow the calls to reach the finish after GO.
Last checked 2026-10-25. Figures below are sourced. Anything not remeasured in the live game is labelled that way.

Pick a mode
| Mode | You do this | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| DRIVE | You drive. A human or RALLY BOT calls notes. | You want a timed stage. |
| CO-DRIVE | You sit second and call the road. | You are learning the notes. |
| FREE ROAM | Walk the service area. No stage clock. | You want to look at cars and the park. |
A first timed run
AllThings lists Pine Forest as 1.5 km with 19 corners. The gold line they print for Orso 4 is 1:12.0, silver 1:18.5, bronze 1:27.5. A clean stock example they give is about 1:20.7, which is bronze, and a wet 1:31 can miss a medal. Those times are examples, not a standard you are owed.
The same guide's sample first finish pays about 230 XP and 235 CR. Damage stays for the session: a cracked windshield stays in the cockpit view until you reset. J runs the wipers.
- PLAY → DRIVE → Orso 4, the starter.
- Choose AI co-driver, leave the seat open, or spawn and invite.
- Drive into the start box and hold the brake until the car is still.
- Confirm with the key shown on the current HUD; the documented keyboard example uses Enter.
- Wait for GO. If you miss the box, R returns you to the last checkpoint and holding Backspace returns you to the box.
After the finish
V at the start opens a hosted race for 2 to 6 people, with class limits and a collision toggle. Contracts show up as extra jobs; CHALLS mentions pairs around 120/150 and 400/250, plus a harder 1,000 CR job. Read the in-game card before you chase a number from a video.
Watch a run
CHALLS walks a first Pine Forest run, including start box, drift, wipers, and the RELEASE code. Upload date on YouTube: 2026-10-20T13:25:49-07:00.
FAQ
What car should a new driver use?
Orso 4. It is the free starter. Freccia HF is the first level-3 step up, not a shop purchase with the release code.
Do I need a friend?
No. The AI co-driver option exists for solo runs. A friend is the CO-DRIVE or invite path.
Why is the start prompt different from a video?
Guides quote STOP IN THE START BOX, BRAKE TO A STOP, and MISSED THE START BOX. The wording can change. Stop the car in the box either way.
